Personality: Syaoran’s most obvious quality is his vivid determination. He is the last one to back down from any challenge and chooses to see everything in his life to its very end. When he chose to gather every last one of Sakura’s memories, he meant just that. He would never give up until every single feather was brought back to her and she could be her happy, old self again. His emotions were thrown aside just for her because she was really that important to him. Humility is one of his largest good aspects, though it sometimes gets in the way as well. He barely ever thinks of himself and is constantly on the lookout for the better of those around him. Making others comfortable and happy is something he prefers to do over being selfish… also a contributor to his great stubbornness.

Syaoran’s skills in martial arts and sword fighting gives him the confidence needed to go on his journey successfully. He learned both skills by adults whom he trusted, and took in the abilities very quickly. His ability to learn that fast and precisely came from his extensive knowledge of worlds at a young age. Traveling with his father gave him experience of different customs and world traditions. He also reads obsessively which means he has a sharp mind for picking up information and keeping it in for later use.

His love for Sakura is different than any other emotion he keeps stored inside. Usually an introverted boy, he doesn’t like to show affection very often because it makes him feel uncomfortable. Despite that fact, being with Sakura gives him a new type of strength… the burning will to fight for her and protect her… to simply look after her with unconditional love. Admitting this would horrify him beyond belief, but it would look pretty obvious to any outsider observing the two friends together and the way he treats her.

History: Syaoran grew up without knowing much about his past or anything before his very early childhood. His earliest memory was the day his adopted father, Fujitaka, found him alone in the dirty streets, looking pathetic as a child with one injured, blind eye. Fujitaka took in Syaoran to live in the country of Clow with him where he was a part of the excavation of the Clow ruins. He gave Syaoran a very happy childhood, and although it was evident that a part of the boy was always missing somewhere deep down inside, his kindness and gentle nature was inevitably natural. As a boy, he went on many travels with his father and roamed through various countries. With each new place Syaoran’s love for history and archaeology grew and grew to the point of obsession, as did his fondness for books and learning. He soon aspired to grow up and be on the excavation team with his father.

Syaoran met Princess Sakura when he first arrived to Clow. His first impression of her was that she was very pretty and vibrant, and that same feeling passed on through the years as their friendship grew stronger and stronger. She treated him with much kindness and understanding despite his many setbacks and introverted behavior, something he forever cherished. Sakura was the one who most influenced Syaoran’s heart. She taught him many things, most importantly how to love himself and not worry about others so much. He couldn’t understand at first because he had always been the protecting kind, and it took her continuously tolerant self to be able to make him comfortable enough to open up more. Of course, she ended up being successful at a very young age. By the time the two friends were teenagers, Syaoran had realized that his close fondness for Sakura had definitely turned into something more than just that. He was in love with her and could not accept any other feeling. She was his one and only, his most precious person, and he vowed to protect her and be with her forever… no matter what it took.

One fateful day, Sakura displayed very odd, magical powers, which ended up in her losing all of her memories in the form of scattered feathers. In a desperate attempt to stick by her, Syaoran was sent to a place by Clow’s royal mage, Yukito, where he would be able to start his journey to getting back his Sakura. He was sent to the “Witch of Demensions,” Yuuko, where he met his soon-to-be fellow travelers: the grumpy ninja Kurogane, the optimistic magician Fai, and the cute creature named Mokona who was the portal to the travelers’ destinations. In order to retrieve all of Sakura’s feathers Syaoran learned that he would have to pay the witch a big price… the most important and precious thing to him: his relationship with Sakura. He accepted the deal without hesitation although it hurt his heart, and the five were off.

They journeyed to many different worlds, and with each found feather they all became closer friends, and Sakura seemed to become more alive by gaining back her memories. Despite her growing personality, though, there was always a very unclear and fuzzy part of her memories… the parts she could not remember where Syaoran had once been. He tried his best not to show concern over the fact, though, and carried out the task best he could no matter how awful he felt.

After much journeying there came a point where they all ended up in a world called “Tokyo” and everything fell to pieces. Syaoran learned of his true past and the reason behind his blind right eye. It turned out that he was not the original Syaoran… rather, a clone of the boy created by the evil Fei Wong Reed who wanted to use the clone in order to gather all of Sakura’s feathers for himself. His plan did not work very well, though, because it turned out that the original Syaoran had given half of his heart to the clone through the blind right eye, who was supposed to be devoid of emotion. Once the original Syaoran broke free of Fei Wong’s imprisonment, the clone turned on his friends and ended up ruthless and heartless after all, consuming his friend Fai’s left eye for its magical abilities and taking its powers all for himself. He soon ran off to dimensions on his own, destroying worlds in any means possible to gain feathers… and leaving his Sakura behind.

Meanwhile, the original Syaoran who had merely watched his clone live the life that should have been his all those years, joined the broken group to go after his clone and continue gathering feathers. Things were not the same, though. The real Syaoran had certain differences with the one who had traveled with the others for so long. Sakura even turned distant with him, noticing his tiny flaws. Things between them never felt the same again.
